THE glittering costumes and the sequins are there.

And so, too, is the obligatory sun tan – thanks to the deft skills of a Mirfield girl.

Ashleigh Craig, 20, is the envy of many by getting up close and very personal with some stars of the small screen.

She is responsible for the tans sported by the contestants in this year’s Dancing on Ice spectacular.

Ashleigh, who works at Beauty by Iridessence in her home in Sunny Bank Road, travels to London every weekend to work with the stars.

And she is playing a vital role in ensuring the likes of Andy Whyment, former Brighouse High School student Matthew Wolfenden, actress Jennifer Ellison and former Dallas star Charlene Tilton look their best.

The show, which goes out on Sunday evenings, attracts millions of viewers.

Presenters Philip Schofield and Christine Bleakley host two shows each week, with the second seeing a skate-off between the couples with the fewest votes.

Ashleigh’s work goes on behind the scenes but she is delighted to be working on the TV set at Elstree Studios.

“I started in the beauty business last March and built up the spray tanning side of it.

“Now I go all over the region to my customers and word got to the TV people.

“They invited me down and arranged for me to work on this series, which is really exciting.

“I’m there for the whole weekend and get to work with most of the contestants, who are really lovely.

“They love the work I do. Each spray tan lasts up to 10 days, so if they manage to stay on the show I’ll be working them for weeks.

“How much tan they get depends very much on what sort of costume they are wearing for each show. Some are more revealing than others so sometimes it’s a lot of work.”

Ashleigh was a pupil at Crossley Fields Junior School and Castle Hall School in Mirfield before moving on to Huddersfield New College.

She studied media, English, Spanish and business studies before leaving to work in the beauty business.

She said: “The celebs and their skating partners get a spray tan each week and we have to ensure they are looking stunning.

“The tanning room is usually a hive of activity and we have great fun with the skaters and with their partners.

“But I have to say the most fun is when Chico or Matt Wolfenden arrive for their tans – they are a breath of fresh air and lots of fun”.
