A MAN was hauled before magistrates after ignoring a court order to stay away from his ex.

Dean Goldthorpe, of Greenside Road, Mirfield, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He admitted breaching an order banning him from contacting Sarah King.

The Huddersfield bench was told that the non-molestation order was made on May 18 by the town’s county court.

It was made after Goldthorpe was charged with assaulting Miss King, his former partner of six years.

But between May 18 and 21 he ignored the ban by sending her 21 text messages.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “The messages to her were of a variety, some were apologetic and some made observations about their relationship.

“None of them were particularly threatening, but one might have been perceived as emotional blackmail.”

Magistrates were told that Miss King, who also lives in Mirfield, did not wish the relationship to continue in the future.

Simon Lindley, defending, said that the couple’s relationship had deteriorated due to a number of difficulties.

He said: “He now accepts that his relationship is at an end.

“The texts said that he loves her and would like to see his son – there was nothing sinister in their content.”

Goldthorpe, 34, appeared before the bench in custody following his arrest for breaching the order.

Magistrates agreed to re-admit him to bail until his court hearing for the assault allegation on May 31.

His bail conditions are residence, non-contact with Miss King, and that he stays away from her address.
