A rugby club is encouraging its players to drink this New Year’s Eve - to boost their funds.

Newly-formed Mirfield Stags have launched the club’s very own real ale, suitably called Drop Kick.

Drop Kick, brewed by the award-winning Ossett Brewery, has this week gone on on sale at The Railway, Mirfield, which is the Stags’ base for 2015.

And all proceeds are to be redirected to support the club’s future development and growth.

Described as a full bodied, well-rounded and slightly sweet ale, Drop Kick (3.9% ABV) is priced at £3 per pint.

The club has announced former Huddersfield Giants star Robbie Hunter-Paul as its first president, and has Super League referee Richard Silverwood on the coaching team.

A Mirfield Stags spokesman said: “We are delighted to have launched our very own brand of real ale, which we believe will only expand the Stags’ commercial footprint.

“Real ale is hugely popular amongst drinkers in the area and we are pleased to be bringing it to The Railway, Mirfield.

“Proceeds from every pint will be pumped back into the club, allowing us to grow and develop at a faster pace alongside our commercial partners.

“It is an honour for us to be working with such a big name in the brewery game and we look forward to building a long and successful partnership with the Ossett Brewery team.”

Andy Pollard, Ossett Brewery’s Sales Manager, added: “We are really pleased to be working with the UK’s newest rugby league club and wish everyone involved every success ahead of their debut campaign.

“Our partnership with Stags strengthens the brewery’s connections with the local community in Mirfield and we are pleased to be involved with such an exciting project.”
