Miss England has added her support to a Kirklees youth project.

Kirsty Heslewood helped hand over a new Variety Sunshine coach to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards scheme based at Shepley Bridge Marina in Mirfield.

The coach will be used to for the youth project work.

Denise Bedford, DofE award manager for Kirklees, said: “This is our second Sunshine coach, the first one is still doing sterling work after 10 years.

“The new coach is a welcome addition and will certainly be put to good use as the DofE scheme in our area works with more young people with disabilities than anywhere else in the country.

“We aim to encourage young people to leave their computers and Xboxes behind and enjoy new experiences.

“We would like to thank Variety, the children’s charity, and Pieroth Wines who sponsored the coach for their generosity and support and having Miss England with us made the occasion extra special.”

Pieroth Wines raised £17,500 towards the 17-seater coach with the Yorkshire Committee of Variety contributing £6,000 to the Kirklees project.

Miss England also met members of the Wild Activities Challenging Kirklees Young People (WACKY) project for disabled young people.
