A search and rescue operation is continuing nearly 48 hours after William Dunk was last spotted.

Police officers and mountain rescue teams searched Denby Dale and surrounding areas for the second night last night but Mr Dunk stil remains unaccounted for this morning.

There have still been ‘no positive sightings’ of missing man William Dunk since he was spotted in Denby Dale between 11 am and 12.15am on Tuesday.

Police have amended the description of the 74-year-old’s clothing which could now trigger the public to come forward.

Officer investigating the disappearance believe he may have had more than one jacket with him, so he could be wearing a green or red fleece.

The hat he is wearing is a brown/grey checked flat cap.

Huddersfield CID is leading the specialist missing person enquiry following the disappearance of Mr Dunk. 74, yesterday morning from his home in Denby Dale.

Holme Valley Mountain Rescue was asked to assist and a team of 16 members searched throughout Tuesday night, covering farmland and wooded areas between Denby Dale, Kitchenroyd and Skelmanthorpe, before standing down at 05.00am.

On Wednesday at 11.00am the team resumed the search, with 18 members to cover more areas of woodland and fields towards Lower Cumberworth.

A spokesman for the team said; “Despite the best efforts of our members, and a considerable number of police searchers, we have been unable to locate the missing gentleman so far.

“We have now committed our members for a night and a day, and it’s difficult to ask them to take any more time off from their day-jobs this week – however if the man doesn’t turn up by the weekend we will more than likely be out again on Saturday."

Mr Dunk is a ‘high risk’ missing person and takes medication so it is imperative that he is located.

He was last seen between 11am and 12.15pm yesterday lunch time having left his house in Pingle Rise at around 10.30am.

A task force to locate Mr Dunk was set up and teams have been searching throughout the night.

The West Yorkshire Police helicopter was also drafted in to help the search.

Det Insp Stephanie Wiseman of Huddersfield CID said: “Mr Dunk has been missing for nearly 48 hours and was last seen in the Denby Dale area.

“Uniformed officers and detectives on the ground are searching for him, assisted by the police helicopter.

“We are also keeping his family informed.

“Locating Mr Dunk is our top priority.”

Mr Dunk is described as of medium build, 5ft 3in tall and was wearing light blue jeans, a red or green fleece jacket and flat cap. His shoes are believed to be black slip ons.

He has distinctive tattoos of ‘Scots’ and ‘land’ on his knuckles and the name ‘Catherine’ on his shoulder. He also has other tattoos on his arms.
