WOMEN having cars serviced and repaired feel intimidated and patronised when dealing with garages, research out today showed.

Almost half of all motorists do not trust a garage to charge an honest price, the research from car care company motoreasy found.

Around one in six motorists have felt pressurised to have work carried out on their car, with a further 10% admitting they have been forced to pay for work they have not approved.

Confusion and mistrust often stems from the language used by mechanics, with nearly 60% of women saying they are left baffled by the jargon thrown at them, though this drops to just over 10% for men.

While those aged 26 to 35 were most likely to understand motoring terminology, motorists over 55 acknowledge a need for further explanation of work carried out.

The research was based on responses from 1,000 motorists.
