MAJOR changes are being made to the timetables of Kirklees mobile libraries.

New schedules starting next Monday will allow time for visits to schools, playgroups, luncheon clubs and other community groups.

Manager Alison Peaden said: "Some schools find it difficult to take classes to a branch library.

"In areas served by mobiles, we will take the vehicles to the schools and introduce pupils to their library service."

She added that because of the increasing volume of traffic, consideration had also been given to the driving and parking of such large vehicles.

The new routes were intended to make the service not only safer but also more environmentally friendly, by making it more efficient in terms of fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

The rescheduling means that many of the times of visits to particular areas have changed - and in a lot of cases so has the day.

Leaflets giving details of the new timetable are available from the mobile libraries, as well as post offices, shops and surgeries in areas visited by the mobile service.
