MODEL railway fans will be making tracks to Mirfield later this month.

More than 20 layouts and a variety of trade stands will feature at a model railway exhibition to be held from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, May 21, at St Mary’s parish centre in Church Lane.

Proceeds from the event, which also features Thomas the Tank Engine and a chance for visitors to run their own locos, will go towards the church’s choir guild.

The exhibition is the second to be run by the choir guild following a successful debut event in 2010.

It is expected to draw model rail enthusiasts from Europe and the UK.

Layouts will include ones depicting railways in Wales, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the USA as well as a Yorkshire colliery complex.

There will also be a raffle for a digital train set donated by Hornby. Attractions outdoors will include a display of Bernese mountain dogs.

Admission is £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.
