A man has appeared in court after another driver allegedly committed an offence using his car.

Mohammad Patel, of Slaithwaite Close in Dewsbury, was before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

On March 15 he was convicted in his absence of permitting another to use a vehicle without insurance.

The offence was said to have occurred on the M62 eastbound on March 14.

Patel, 43, claimed that he was abroad at the time and only found out about the court case after receiving a notice about his fine.

Magistrates set aside his conviction but proceedings will be started against him again on May 4.
