FORGET poppies and petunias – a man filled his garden with old furniture and paving slabs.

Now the Heckmondwike man has been fined for not cleaning up his garden after being served with an enforcement notice by Kirklees Council.

Mohammed Usman, of Briar Close, was found guilty in his absence at Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court.

The court was told he had been given 28 days to clean his garden after a notice was served on him in December, 2010, under Section 92A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.Š By February, 2011, it still hadn’t been cleaned properly so contractors were brought in to clear it and he was prosecuted.

He was fined £435 plus £15 victim support and £533.90 in costs for not keeping his garden free of waste.
