A MOLDGREEN man drove after mistakenly believing he was fit to drive after drinking.

Darren Boothroyd, of Wakefield Road, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He admitted drink-driving at Southfield Road, Almondbury, on April 24.

Alex Bosman, prosecuting, said that police stopped Boothroyd’s Vauxhall Corsa at 11pm.

The officers could smell alcohol on his breath and he was arrested.

Tests carried out at the police station revealed that he had 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35mg.

Magistrates were told that the 28-year-old had no similar convictions on his record.

But he does hold a suspended sentence imposed by Bradford Crown Court on March 23.

Arshad Khan, defending, said that on the evening his client had enjoyed a couple of pints at the pub with a friend.

He said: “He didn’t feel that he was over the limit, he should have been safe rather than being sorry.”

Magistrates banned Boothroyd from driving for 15 months.

They also ordered him to pay £110 fine, £85 court costs and £15 victim surcharge.
