A MOLDGREEN man was given a community order after stealing from a town centre store.

James Newton, of Ravensknowle Road, was before District Judge Marie Mallon sitting in Huddersfield yesterday.

He admitted stealing aftershave and perfume from TK Maxx in the Kingsgate Centre on April 21.

The theft of the items – worth £12 – put him in breach of a 12 month conditional discharge imposed by in February, for burglary and theft.

Bill Astin, prosecuting, said the 26-year-old admitted the theft and the goods were recovered.

He said that the previous offence involved Newton acting as lookout while another man stole a TV.

Judge Mallon said that Newton needed to address his drug problem. She gave him a community order for 12 months. This includes 100 hours of unpaid work and a drug rehabilitation requirement.

Newton was also ordered to pay £85 towards court costs.
