A CAMPAIGN has been launched to improve the tax credits system for the thousands of people who have had problems with it.

Citizens' Advice Bureaux clients across the North - including Kirklees and Calderdale - have reported a range of problems in contacting the tax credit office, getting accurate information and getting problems solved.

The CAB campaign aims to provide the Inland Revenue with detailed information on where the system is breaking down.

It is hoped the system can then be improved, to stop such problems happening again and help the public gain easier access to the service.

A CAB spokeswoman said: "Tax credits have been widely welcomed by many, but the advantages can be outweighed by the distress caused when the system goes wrong."

Fifty-seven offices across the North will be monitoring all the tax credit problems brought to them.

The results will be shared with the Inland Revenue, the Government and MPs of all parties.
