SPECIALIST markets will be held throughout Kirklees on every weekend in May.

The months kicks off with a craft and food market in Holmfirth Market Hall this Saturday and Sunday. This coincides with Festival of Folk weekend.

As well as the usual weekly traders, there will be stalls selling handmade instruments, jewellery, clothing and giftware.

Cleckheaton also hosts a special event this weekend. It is the Farmers’ Market, which will take place from 9am to 1pm on Saturday in St John’s car park next to the Town Hall.

Newborn lambs from Coddy’s Farm will be at the market and available for visitors to hold.

The following weekend, Sunday, May 15, the bustling monthly Holmfirth Farmers’ Market will be open from 8am to 2pm.

Fresh meats, vegetables, beers, cakes and cheese will be among the local produce on sale.

The Fiery Food Street Market is open for the first time in Dewsbury on Saturday, May 21.

A selection of spicy foods will be on sale, from chilli and chocolate cakes to Indian Creole foods.

Running alongside the CAMRA beer festival, Dewsbury Market will be showcasing cookery demonstrations throughout the day and there will be free fiery face painting.

The popular French Market will be back in Huddersfield from Thursday, May 26 to Sunday, May 29.

The market will bring the town centre alive with its unique display of colour, vibrancy and rich variety of authentic quality produce from across Europe.

The Spring Bank weekend sees Holmfirth Market Hall open on Monday, May 30.

The market will be offering a selection of unique hand-made art and crafts.

Finally, bargain hunters may want to head down to the Bank Holiday Monday Market and Car Boot Sale.

This will be held from 9am to 3pm on Monday, May 30 at Huddersfield Open Market.
