AN appeal to donate old uniforms exceeded all expectations at Moor End Technology College.

The school in Crosland Moor is one of several which has pledged support to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s recycling scheme, which has raised more than £1m since it was launched in 2005.

On the last day of the academic year on Wednesday, Moor End held a non-uniform day and students donated 90 bags of old uniform items.

The clothes are sold by recycling partner Bag It Up, which collects and resells them to UK and overseas markets.

The school is also working with Huddersfield Rotary Club on the Boots for Africa appeal founded by Sheffield FC.

Students donated 50 pairs of boots to the scheme, which donates old football boots to children in Africa.

Year seven students who contributed to the appeal included: Lybah Akhtar, Declan Gilbert, Mohammed Shoaib, Marcus Francois, Nikita Tomczynski, Elliot Mate, Ellie Rose Thomas, Courtney Kershaw and Alisha Isherwood.
