A DRIVER walked away after his car careered into a moorland ditch.
A tanker driver was parked in a lay-by on New Hey Road, near Buckstones, at 10pm on Tuesday night when he saw headlights hurtling towards him.
The car missed the tanker, but ended up in a ditch, covered in mud.
Firefighter Barry Bairstow, of Elland fire station, said: "The driver then walked off towards Outlane.
"He told the tanker driver he had swerved to avoid a sheep and the car had spun, hit a bollard and ended up in boggy marshland.
"It sounds like he had a lucky escape."
