Almost 1,500 children in Kirklees travel to Calderdale to go to school, figures have revealed.

Data released by the Department of Education show that 1,481 school places in Calderdale are taken up by children whose homes are within Kirklees.

The news follows the Examiner’s report last week of seven-year-old Charlie Gee whose local school Moorlands at Mount near Salendine Nook had no room for him forcing him to stay with his grandparents during the weekend to attend Cowlersley Primary.

The same was true for only 56.8% of Kirklees pupils.
