A PETITION of more than 3,000 signatures will be handed to councillors today.

And they all oppose one thing – parking charges for Brighouse town centre.

Shopkeepers have been collecting signatures over the past two months against the proposal to introduce borough-wide parking charges.

Clr Howard Blagbrough will present the petition and he said: “The shopkeepers have worked hard to get people into the town centre and we feel this would go against all their hard work.

“This is us telling the cabinet that we don’t want on-the-street parking charges in Brighouse.”

The shopkeepers, residents and local councillors have come up with their own ideas to prevent the town centre being hit by such charges.

One suggestion is for a payback scheme to operate so shoppers have any future parking charges refunded by local traders they do business with.
