A TV series filmed extensively in Huddersfield and Calderdale is up for more awards.

Happy Valley, the gritty police thriller, has been nominated for several categories in this year’s BAFTA television awards.

The show’s star, Sarah Lancashire, who played Sgt Catherine Cawood, is nominated for best actress.

She joins Line Of Duty star Keely Hawes, Sheridan Smith for Cilla, and Georgina Campbell who starred in Murdered By My Boyfriend.

Lancashire’s co-star James Norton is nominated in the best supporting actor category.

And the show itself is also in line for an award. It has been nominated as best drama series along with Line Of Duty, The Missing and Peaky Blinders, which was also shot partly in Armitage Bridge and features Huddersfield twins.

Jeff and Matt Postlethwaite made their screen debuts together by appearing in the 1920s gangster drama, taking on the shady roles of gang members Nipper and Henry.

Happy Valley, which is due to return for a second series, was created by Huddersfield-born writer Sally Wainwright and has won many awards.

The nominations were announced at Bafta’s central London headquarters by actors Freddie Fox and Sherlock star Amanda Abbington.

Benedict Cumberbatch is in the running to pick up a TV Bafta for his performance as the master detective Sherlock Holmes.

The star, who lost out on a Best Actor Oscar earlier this year, is nominated for the best actor award alongside Toby Jones for Marvellous, James Nesbitt for The Missing and Jason Watkins for The Lost Honour Of Christopher Jefferies.

This year’s ceremony is at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, on Sunday May 10.
