THE fight against new Kirklees Council plans to change schooling in parts of the area was stepped up last night.
Staff and parents at one of the council’s own schools have come out against the plans.
People met at BirkenshawŠ CE First & Nursery School to condemn a plan to move them to the site of Birkenshaw Middle School.
That proposal has also angered parents fighting to set up a new “Free” school as they planned to use the Middle School site.
Councillors will meet on Tuesday to discuss the new proposals.
But a spokesman for the First School said: “We wish to inform you that following a meeting of the Governing Body, we express our total opposition to our school being moved from its current site to the Birkenshaw Middle School site.
“We are taking active steps to determine what options are open to us as we fight these proposals put forward by Kirklees Council.
“We are in the process of formulating our campaign.”
