EMERGENCY supplies of road salt have been delivered to Kirklees as more freezing weather is on the way.

The stocks were delivered by the Highways Agency as gritting teams worked throughout the weekend and last night to prevent more problems on the roads.

Some councils have run out, but the Highways Agency said more supplies are on the way.

A container ship is travelling from Spain with 40,000 tonnes of salt, and another ship is also heading to the UK with salt from Germany. Both are expected on Wednesday.

Between one and four inches of snow have been predicted for Huddersfield, and temperatures over the coming week will range from minus 3°C to no more than 3°C, with little chance of the lying snow thawing.

More snow flurries have been forecast throughout today and again on Tuesday and Thursday.
