MORE parking space is needed at a major business park as a company looks to expand.

BCA Leisure, which produces items for caravan industry, based at the Lowfields Business Park, has applied to permission to create a car park for 25 vehicles.

They also want to widen the existing approach on to Premier Way of the Elland development.

It's because staff numbers have grown from 50 employees when they moved there more than seven years ago to 110 currently.

And BCA Leisure says in a planning report that they are looking to employ an additional 30-40 members of staff.

A planning application to Calderdale Council shows they already have 38 spaces, but want to boost the number to 63 to provide more parking spaces for staff.

The report says: “Parking space within the site is now at a premium and staff currently have to double park within the yard to ensure that there are no obstructions.”

The report adds that while 75% of staff live locally, they “still have difficulty utilising public transport to ensure they reach the premises at the start of the working day” said to be from 6.30am.

The proposed car park would be raised well above the nearby River Calder.

Members of the public have until May 13 to comment on the proposals, with a decision due by Calderdale's planning team by May 30.
