SUPERMARKET bosses have given the go-ahead to expand the Morrisons store at Meltham.

The retail giant was last night granted planning permission to expand the Station Road store into part of the car park and build a first-floor parking deck.

The proposal will see the sales area increase from 1,230sq m to 2,103sq m and boost parking spaces from 156 to 222.

The council’s Huddersfield Planning Sub-committee last night backed the proposal.

Morrisons carried out public consultation back in March and found that the plan was backed by 96.5% of more than 300 respondents.

Officers took the view that a recently implemented traffic calming scheme in Station Road would assist the proposal.

Members approved the scheme subject to conditions to be determined by approved by planning officers.
