A WOMAN has been arrested six years after her baby was discovered dead in a bin bag.

Police made an arrest following an appeal on BBC1’s Crimewatch, which led to tip-offs about the location of Angela Owen.

The former Barkisland woman was wanted in connected with the death of her baby boy, as well as serious fraud offences totalling more than £250,000.

Ms Owen featured in Crimewatch’s Rogues Gallery in which presenters explained how she had been wanted since the grim discovery.

It was in July 2006 that her baby boy’s body was found in the garden of The Howroyd stately home in Krumlin Road, Barkisland.

Ms Owen, who grew up in Moldgreen, Huddersfield, had rented the old servant’s quarters from January 2002 until May 2003.

But it was not until many years later that the baby boy’s body was found wrapped in a bin liner during a refurbishment of the Barkisland property.

He died after a full-term pregnancy and where he was buried was close to the house and within view of its windows.

It’s thought the body may have lay undiscovered for a year before it was found.

At a recently-opened inquest Coroner Tim Ratcliffe said that new DNA tests have now confirmed Angela Owen to be the baby boy’s mother.

But it was adjourned pending further police investigations.

Now police have made a breakthrough after the TV appeal.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that the 46-year-old was arrested in the Avon and Somerset area following the TV plea.

The spokesman said: “Police officers from Halifax looking for a 46-year-old woman wanted for fraud and further serious offences have arrested a woman in connection with the incidents.

“This follows an appeal on the BBC show Crimewatch last night.”

She remains in police custody.

The TV programme highlighted how Ms Owen, who grew up in Huddersfield, was said to be using aliases, including Ann Hall, Carla Geisser, Helen Gee and Angela Pogson.

She had relatives in Huddersfield, having spent much of her time growing up in the town.

Earlier this month Det Insp Stephen Snow of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) at West Yorkshire Police said she had close connections to the Moldgreen area, but was last seen aged 39 in 2004 in Weston Super Mare.
