A WOMAN was bitten by a dog believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier.

She was bitten on the hand as the dog fought with another dog near Moldgreen Community Primary School.

The incident terrified mothers taking their children to the school.

Eye-witness Mrs Susan Kenyon said: "The dog, which looked like a pit bull, came out of a house and was fighting with a dog owned by one of the mums.

"She tried to intervene but was badly bitten. The dogs ran off when someone hit them with a piece of wood."

The dog was later knocked down by a car and is receiving vet's treatment.
