THOUSANDS of motorists were hit by delays after an early-morning crash between a car and a motorcyclist at Hillhouse.

The crash happened at around 5.50am yesterday when a Ford Focus and a motorbike were in a collision close to the junction of Willow Lane East and Bradford Road.

The motorcyclist was taken to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax with serious injuries.

Police were forced to close the road in both directions at the junction which caused major disruption as the rush hour started.

Queues formed shortly after the crash which forced motorists to find alternative routes. Leeds Road was gridlocked until after 9.40am, as were minor roads through Birkby and Fartown.

The junction near the crash at Bradford Road was reopened by mid-morning.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We received a call at 5.57pm following a road traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle.

“The road was closed in both directions between Willow Lane East and Bradford Road.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash should call police on the non-emergency number 101.
