A MAN who was employed to investigate false claims on behalf of Her Majesty’s Court service has appeared in court charged with fraud.

Richard Cantwell, 42, of New Hey Road, Mount, Huddersfield, appeared briefly at Wakefield Magistrates Court yesterday charged with falsely making 36 claims to Her Majesty’s Court Service for financial expenses, namely loss of earnings.

The claims relate to false representations made by the defendant between June 2007 and May 30, 2010 and total £7,175.

He also stands accused of forging three letters with the intention of inducing a representative of Her Majesty’s Court Service to accept it as genuine.

Deputy District Judge Hales granted unconditional bail and the defendant will next appear at Wakefield Magistrates Court at 10.30am on September 13 for a committal hearing.
