WALKERS have been warned not to get caught out by the clocks going back.

Every year mountain rescue chiefs are hit by a surge of people getting lost in the dark after the October time change.

Woodhead Mountain Rescue team leader Keith Wakeley said it was important that people were prepared.

“At this time of year we often find people get caught out,’’ he said. “They go for a bimble round the moors and forget it gets dark earlier. We then have to go out and pick them up. Please take a torch and before you go out check it works as we often find people with a torch that has gone flat.”
