move onto the former Huddersfield rugby union ground at Wakefield Road, not far from the Morrisons store, off Penistone Road.
Huddersfield Planning Sub-committee decided to delegate the decision to planning officers, who will approve the plan if the site passes a flood assessment.
The plan envisages an Aldi store on 1,638 square metres together with two non-food units of 2,322 square metres and 325 square metres.
Planning permission was granted in 2000 for a similar scheme, but with a larger non-food retail unit than the 325 square metre site.
Kirklees planning officers believe the new proposal has a more attractive frontage.
Huddersfield Rugby Union Club left the ground in 1997 for their new home in Lockwood Park.
