COLNE Valley MP Kali Mountford is encouraging people in her constituency to buy Fairtrade products during a fortnight dedicated to the fair payments to growers scheme.
And Ms Mountford has welcomed the Government’s announcement of further support to the Fairtrade movement.
She said: “Fairtrade helps support seven million people in the developing world.
“Our shopping habits can make a real difference to the world’s poorest people.
“By buying food and presents from developing countries we will help grow their economies and reduce poverty.
“I am impressed with the work done by local campaigners for Fairtrade and was pleased to be involved with the creation of a Fairtrade area in Holmfirth.
“I believe we should spread this message to all parts of the constituency.”
The Fairtrade fortnight runs until March 9.
