HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman will return to lecturing as a university professor on Friday.

The Labour politician, who has recently celebrated 30 years in the House of Commons, was formerly a lecturer in politics at the University of Wales College of Swansea.

Now he celebrates his appointment as honorary professor in social enterprise at the Business School of the University of Huddersfield.

He will give an inaugural lecture on Friday entitled Universities, Communities and Social Enterprise.

Mr Sherman will give his views on how social entrepreneurs can transform the life of communities in a post-industrial society.

The offer of a visiting professorship came after Mr Sheerman gave a guest lecture as part of the university business school’s MSc course in social entrepreneurship.

Mr Sheerman has initiated more than 30 social enterprises over the past 20 years. Active involvements currently include Policy Connect, a not-for-profit organisation bridging Parliament and industry to promote effective policy in key areas such as skills, environment, health, design and sustainability.

The inaugural lecture is in Canalside West Lecture Theatre at 6.15pm. Contact email: hubs.enquiries@hud.ac.uk tel: 01484 472129.
