LABOUR MP Mike Wood is calling on former Turner and Newall employees in his Batley and Spen constituency to contact him if they are worried about their pensions.

He revealed he had been approached by a number of people who used to work for the engineering firm after reports their pension fund could be wound up.

The firm, owned by US company Federal Mogul, has depots in Rochdale and Armley, Leeds.

Mr Wood said he wanted to get as many workers together as possible so he could form a plan of action and make sure they stay informed of any developments.

The MP said: "I know there are a fair number of former Turner and Newall employees here in Batley and Spen who will be extremely worried at the reports in the national press.

"I want to make sure I can make the strongest possible representations on their behalf to the Government and to the unions who are presently negotiating with the administrators and fund trustees."

Newspaper reports have suggested that 40,000 worker and ex-workers could be affected by a pension fund shortfall of £875m.
