BETTER facilities for young people were some of the suggestions Fartown High School pupils came up with when they met Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman.

Mr Sheerman, who is also chairman of the Commons Education Select Committee, spoke to students as part of a visit to chart the school's progress.

His visit came as the school tries to improve its performance.

Ofsted inspectors have put the school back into special measures.

Also, Kirklees Council has sent a troubleshooting squad , including a new acting headteacher, Steve Britton, into the school.

Mr Sheerman said: "The pupils wanted to see more activities for young people. Everyone complains about anti-social behaviour in Huddersfield, but young people today have fewer activities than other generations."

He said he would be talking to the council and had already approached the Brian Jackson Children's Centre in Huddersfield.
