HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman says we should "hope and pray" for the safe return of Chris Coe from Iran.

Mr Sheerman was reacting to the news that leading seaman Coe, of Derwent Drive, Dalton, was among the group of Royal Navy personnel captured 18 days ago. He said: "We have all got to hope and pray that they come home soon safe and well.

"I'm very concerned to hear that one of my constituents is among the group captured by Iran.

"It makes it all the more poignant.

"The Iranians have absolutely no justification for holding them whatsoever and some of the ritual humiliation they have put the group through has no place in a civilised society."

He said the government was doing all it could to resolve the situation.

"We are demanding the release of these men and women at the earliest possible opportunity," he said.

"I will be asking the foreign secretary to redouble her efforts to bring them home.

"The Government is doing everything it can to ensure their swift and safe release."
