WAKEFIELD MP David Hinchliffe is claiming compensation after he fell in a country park while walking his dog.

Mr Hinchliffe, whose constituency includes Kirkburton and Denby Dale, suffered a broken wrist after he fell crossing a wooden bridge in July.

He was with his dog Seth at Pugneys, on the outskirts of Wakefield.

Now it has been revealed he is asking for compensation from the city council.

Mr Hinchliffe, 54, is chairman of the Commons Health Select Committee and is standing down at the next election.

He said he was not prepared to comment on the claim because of pending legal action.

A spokesman for Wakefield Council confirmed Mr Hinchliffe had made a claim for compensation from the council.

"I can confirm he has made a claim and it is going through the normal process," he said.
