A TIME capsule has been placed at the National Coal Mining Museum near Grange Moor by the MP Andy Burnham.

Mr Burnham, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, placed the capsule in the museum’s drift mine.

The capsule’s contents reflect various aspects of life from the Coxley parish, which covers the Middlestown and Overton areas, near the museum.

Coxley Live Group, which aims to examine the past, present and future of cultural life in the parish, came up with the idea of a time capsule.

Children from Netherton Junior and Infant School and Middlestown Junior and Infant School helped fill the container.

Coxley Live, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has also been responsible for walks, exhibitions and concerts.
