DEWSBURY’S MP has visited a Nazi death camp where thousands of people were murdered.

Shahid Malik was part of a Parliamentary delegation which travelled to Majdanek in Poland.

More than 79,000 people, most of them Jewish, were killed there between 1941 and 1944.

Mr Malik said: “The terrible truth is that hate and prejudice continue to persist in Europe today. Visiting Jewish sites in Poland and seeing first hand the dreadful legacy of the Holocaust provides a valuable lesson in the devastating impact that intolerance can have.

“The lessons of the Holocaust must not be forgotten and are fundamental to ensuring that future generations never again allow racism and anti-Semitism to gain a foothold in Europe.”

Mr Malik was on a trip organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust and the All-Party Parliamentary Group against Anti-Semitism.
