BARRY Sheerman has handed over money to help improve Huddersfield Parish Church.
The Huddersfield MP gave the cash to the Cornerstone Appeal.
He saved £500 by sending email Christmas cards last year and gave half to the church. The Vicar of Huddersfield, the Rev Catherine Ogle, thanked Mr Sheerman, saying: “I’m grateful for his contribution.”
Phase One of the Cornerstone Appeal was completed last year, with £400,00 raised for repairs to the town centre church.
Phase Two will involve a £1m upgrade of the building.
Ms Ogle said: “We want to improve the entrance, the access and the lighting. We want to be able to serve the community seven days a week.”
