GORDON Brown has promised to visit West Yorkshire to see the impact of the banking crisis.

The Prime Minister made the pledge in a meeting with Calder Valley MP Chris McCafferty.

The Labour MP wants Mr Brown to see the importance of Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) to her constituency.

Ms McCafferty said: “I am delighted that the Prime Minister recognises that the proposed merger of HBOS and Lloyds TSB is a national issue which may have a tremendous impact on jobs in Calderdale and West Yorkshire and wants to see for himself the hard work of local HBOS employees.”

Ms McCafferty and Halifax MP Linda Riordan met Mr Brown last week to discuss the merger.
