PARENTS should be vigilant when buying videos as Christmas presents for children, says an MP.

Colne Valley MP Kali Mountford issued the warning in a bid to stop scenes of sex and violence being watched by the under-18s.

"Age classification on videos is not always clearly labelled and I fear that children could end up watching tapes that are totally unsuitable," she said.

"Parents should check the label before buying a video as a child's present."

She also appealed to shops to make sure they do not sell adult videos to under-age children.
