WAKEFIELD MP Mary Creagh has welcomed recommendations for legal protection for unmarried couples should they break up.
The recommendations by the Law Commission are under consultation until September 30.
In January Ms Creagh tabled a Commons motion calling on the Government to introduce a law to provide a safety net for couples of whatever sexual orientation who live together.
More than 120 MPs have signed it.
Ms Creagh said: "I am delighted the commission has recognised the need for some legal protection and fairness for unmarried couples.
"We are not talking about claiming massive amounts. But these proposals will provide a safety net so one partner is not left destitute after a long-term relationship."
