RETAILER Marks & Spencer is poised to recruit more than 1,300 temporary workers for its stores in Yorkshire this Christmas.
The chainstore needs seasonal personnel to work as assistants in its stores, cafes and warehouses.
The firm has three outlets in Huddersfield: on New Street, the Piazza and Waterloo.
Nationally M&S is recruiting 20,000 seasonal workers as it gears up for the busy Christmas shopping period.
Retail director Steve Rowe said: “We’re looking for 20,000 more friendly and enthusiastic employees to help our customers find exactly what they need to celebrate Christmas.”
The seasonal recruits will have to work at least 16 hours a week and may need to work evenings as well as weekends and Bank Holidays over the Christmas and New Year period.
The jobs boost comes as the retailer unveiled latest sales figures.
M&S said UK like-for-like sales fell by just 0.5% in the 13 weeks to September 26.
However, that was better than most forecasts and continued the improving trend seen over the past three quarters.
Executive chairman Sir Stuart Rose said consumers appeared more confident, but added: “We continue to be cautious about the outlook.”
