AN ENGINEER has slammed Royal Mail for failing to sort his mail problem.

Paul Hirst, 51, of Sycamore Avenue, Golcar, says he has received more than 60 letters addressed to other people over the last two years.

He says he has become a surrogate postman as he repeatedly receives his neighbour’s mail.

And Mr Hirst adds Royal Mail have lost more than 30 letters addressed to him, including several test letter sent by friends.

Mr Hirst says police came knocking at his door a few months ago with a warrant to arrest a person who lived elsewhere.

He adds the problem is not just confined to his house.

Despite multiple complaints to Royal Mail and Postwatch – the watchdog for postal services – the problem has not stopped.

“I get mail from Sycamore Grange, Sycamore Flats, Longwood and Paddock. You name it. I get it.

“I’ve spoken to every manager at Huddersfield sorting office over the last two years. They change the staff so often you end up back at the start.

“I’ve started sending things by courier because I don’t trust Royal Mail.

“Why should I become a postman and deliver mail that’s been sent to the wrong address?

“And it’s rife on my street. All these wrong deliveries open the door to fraud and identity theft.

“You just go rounds in circles and nothing gets done.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We’re very sorry that Mr Hirst has had problems with deliveries to his address and we are putting procedures in place urgently to prevent these problems happening in future.”
