A CALLOUS robber knocked an 88-year-old disabled woman to the ground to steal her purse.

Now detectives are anxious to catch the mugger before he can strike again.

They have a good description of him and hope someone can name him.

The victim – who is registered blind and has partial hearing – was walking along Fir Parade in Ravensthorpe at noon yesterday holding her purse in her hand.

The thief shoved her over, grabbed the purse and fled.

But a 39-year-old man saw what had happened and chased the thief, who dropped the purse as he escaped.

The victim suffered a grazed right knee along with slight shoulder and finger injuries.

Paramedics treated her at the scene, but she did not go to hospital.

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Kirklees CID intelligence unit, said: “This robber has shown no respect or care to his victim and this could have had terrible consequences.

“We would hope that anyone who recognises the man from the description will be able to come forward with a name.’’

The mugger is a light-skinned Asian or Eastern European man aged 25 to 30, 5ft 8ins and he wore black-rimmed glasses.

He also wore a light brown and red checked Burberry-style shirt, a black bobble hat and dark trousers.
