PARKING misery at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary could be at an end.

Ambitious proposals to develop a huge mill complex opposite the hospital include TWO multi-storey car parks.

And health chiefs hope they will ease pressure on roads in the Lindley area - congested by hospital staff, patients and visitors.

The idea is included as part of a huge project to transform Acre Mills, a site opposite the Infirmary, and provide improved facilities for the future.

It has been drawn up by the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust.

Members of the public will be given the chance to find out more about the plans for the Acre Mill site - former home to Joseph Sykes' wire-making premises - at displays going on show next week.

The multi-million pound plans could see the site transformed to house many non-clinical services, such as laundry. This will free up valuable space in the main hospital to improve medical services for patients.

The trust bought the Acre Mill site in June 2003. Some improvement work has already taken place to accommodate the personnel and development unit.

Hospital bosses gave the go-ahead for a planning application to be submitted to Kirklees Council at a meeting this month

The trust is also working with its partner organisations to make the best use of the site.

To find out more about the proposals visit the display in the gatehouse at Acre Mills, opposite the main hospital.

The display will be open:

Tuesday, January 3 - 2pm to 5pm; Wednesday, January 4 - 2pm to 5pm; Thursday, January 5 - 2pm to 5pm; Friday, January 6 - 2pm to 7pm; Saturday, January 7 - 10am to 1pm.
