A DESPERATE mum has pleaded with her troubled teenage daughter: "Please come home."

Shelbie Greenwood, 14, ran away from her home on Sunny Mead in Waterloo eight days ago.

A police hunt has been launched for her and family and friends are constantly on the look-out.

There have been sightings of her in Brighouse.

But, despite being in contact with mum Hayley twice by phone, Shelbie has so far refused to return home.

In a direct plea to her daughter, Hayley, 34, said: "Please just come home."

She added: "The last week has been awful.

"Her little brother, Ryan, who’s seven, is missing her like mad.

"I’ve tried to keep as much of it from him as possible, but he knows Shelbie isn’t here and he doesn’t know why."

Shelbie is meant to attend the Ethos Pupil Referral Unit in Rawthorpe after being taken out of Almondbury High School for behavioural problems.

Hayley said her daughter had her fair share of problems and had started having "normal teenage arguments" with her.

But she said there had not been a specific incident to cause her to run away.

Shelbie called Hayley on Saturday after being told there had been an appeal on local television news.

The teenager said she was coming home but did not turn up and called again on Sunday to say she was in Halifax.

Friends and family remain in the dark about her whereabouts.

Hayley said: "I think she’s in Brighouse because that’s where she was last seen, we used to live over there and she has lots of friends and family there.

"She has been running away for about three weeks.

"She has been away overnight before and back the next day, but she has never been away for this long.

"I have tried to be as nice as I can to her, but I’m really worried.

"I don’t know where she is, what she is eating and who she is with and it’s a concern.

"We have contacted as many friends and people where she has been before, but no-one knows where she is."

Shelbie also has contacts in the Fartown area.

Police say they are concerned for her safety.

The youngster is white, 5ft 5ins tall, slim and has shoulder-length, mousey brown straight hair and blue eyes.
