A MURDER hunt was launched in Bradley last night.

Police confirmed a woman had been stabbed to death and a man seriously hurt as a huge inquiry swung into action.

It is believed the stabbing took place in a house at Bradley Road.

An armed response team swooped on a bungalow near St Thomas’ Church at Bradley Road at 6.39pm yesterday after a report that a man and woman were being attacked.

On arrival officers found both the man and woman had stab wounds.

Both were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with serious injuries but the woman died a short time later.

The man is said to have serious injuries.

The police investigation is being led by Det Chief Supt Chris Thompson of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

The Examiner understands police have found a knife in nearby St Thomas’ Gardens.

Last night, police sealed off a large number of properties at Bradley Road as they began investigating the attack.

A large number of officers patrolled the scene and people living in the houses beyond the cordon were unable to get their cars to their homes.

Neighbours who were out in the street as the drama unfolded into the night said they thought two elderly women and a young man lived in the large bungalow, but did not know their names.

One neighbour said six police cars and police dogs swooped on the property just before 7pm.

The couple, who did not want to be named, said they then saw a man being led into the back of an ambulance holding a pad to the back of his head.

They also confirmed that the West Yorkshire Police helicopter had been called in and was seen circling and searching over the Deighton and Bradley area.

One resident of St Thomas’ Gardens said it had been a dreadful shock.

“We had been out for a meal and arrived home to find a long stretch of Bradley Road cordoned off with police tape and the entrance road into St Thomas’s Gardens completely sealed off.

“Police told us we would have to park the car on the main road and we were given a police escort down the path and to our home.

“From what neighbours told us, there had been an incident at the bungalow in Bradley Road which backs on to St Thomas’s Gardens and police then found a knife at the entrance to the development.”
