SERIAL killer Steve Wright has been refused leave to appeal.

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that Wright – who included Huddersfield woman Anneli Alderton among his five victims – would not get an appeal.

The 50-year-old was convicted in February of murdering five prostitutes whose bodies were found at remote areas around Ipswich, Suffolk, in December, 2006.

A CPS spokesman said a judge had rejected Wright’s bid for an appeal.

But Wright still has an opportunity to renew his application and have his case considered during an open court hearing before three judges.

The forklift truck driver, from Ipswich, was sentenced to life in prison following a trial at the town’s Crown Court.

His victims, who all worked in Ipswich’s red light district, vanished between October and December, 2006. Ms Alderton, 24, used to live at Primrose Hill.
