EXTRA money will be spent improving access to Dewsbury Museum.

Kirklees Council’s Cabinet is to spend £250,000 to make sure all three floors are accessible to people in wheelchairs.

Cabinet member and Dewsbury councillor Khizar Iqbal welcomed the spending.

He said: “This investment, along with the many other budget initiatives being proposed by the Conservatives, are a clear indication of our commitment to Dewsbury and its regeneration.

“Dewsbury Museum is an excellent one, but unfortunately there is limited access to the upper floors for some people.

“The extension, installation of the lift and other facilities, will improve this museum and increase use.

“It is already popular, with 35,000 people a year visiting the exhibits.

“It will now be accessible to more, ensuring improved user satisfaction and fewer complaints.”
