A POPULAR music festival is to enjoy another summer thanks to council funding.

Crown of Lights is to hold its seventh and eight festival at Green Park, Heckmondwike, on July 24 and September 4.

Kirklees Council has agreed to release £10,000 for the all-age free festivals which run from noon until 9pm and feature 12 acts of different musical styles from across the north of England.

Crown of Lights organiser Donal O’Driscoll said: “I’m over the moon that Kirklees have decided to become partners with Spen Valley Cultural Events to deliver the seventh and eighth free music festivals in Green Park, Heckmondwike.

“The festivals continue to fuel a strong local music scene in the town. The whole Crown of Lights thing is now beginning to attract international interest from artistes as far away as Germany and the USA. The festivals are the icing on the cake.”

Crown of Lights also puts on monthly band and acoustic nights at Comrades Club, Regent Street, Heckmondwike.
